Professional Advice About Your Book
One of the most commonly asked questions about book editing is what type of edit does my book need? If you’re an author with a manuscript ready, a 2Nimble editing check can help answer your questions. It’s an entry-level service specially designed to give you our professional opinion. We’ll take a look at a sample of your work and give you advice about our editing services from a professional’s point of view.
What’s Included: An editor will assess a random selection of roughly 30 pages of your book to evaluate which level of service the manuscript needs. If you choose to purchase the level of editing suggested, the check-up cost is applied to your purchase.
What’s not Included: The editor will not offer any input on the manuscript except for what kind of editing it needs.
If you’re trying to balance your DIY spirit against the realities of how to write a successful book, an editing check gives you excellent food for thought. Despite the opinions of some online provocateurs, there is nearly universal agreement among established authors that everyone benefits from affordable editing services. If you’re writing a book for the first time, an editing check can be especially helpful.

Do You Have a Good Book Ready?
Storytelling, flow, and readability are critical success factors for every book – have you done them well? A manuscript evaluation is the editing service that answers the question. It includes an assessment of your book’s content and how it might be improved. Any reworking is yours to do as the author, but an editor’s comments give you an independent, professional opinion about areas for improvement.
What’s Included: An editor will read your entire manuscript and provide a summary of the story suitable for back matter, an assessment of what level of editing the manuscript needs, an evaluation of the content and whether it requires any serious reworking, and a suggested demographic for marketing.
What’s not Included: The editor will not provide in-line corrections or any input on fixing the identified problems with the manuscript.
Finding a book editor online who can give you big picture advice that also includes insight about the target readers/demographic for your book can be enormously valuable. Taking your work from an initial idea to a final finished product that reaches an interested group of readers is a process. Access to advice from experienced professionals can make all the difference toward success in the long run.

Readying Your Manuscript to be Published
If you have a manuscript that needs an edit to be ready for publication, our affordable book editors are at your service. Developmental editing service includes a style review to give the text consistency and improve its readability and comments about areas for improvement. You’ll also work one-on-one with your editor in a post-edit call where you can ask questions and discuss improvement opportunities.
What’s Included: Applying the Chicago Manual of Style, an editor will read your unfinished or first-draft manuscript to assess the book’s content. Edits will be provided as in-line comments. For fiction, the editor will look at plot structure, character development, and pacing. For nonfiction, the editor will look at the organization of the information and whether it is engaging and understandable.
You will also receive a scheduled call with your editor to discuss the edits after you have reviewed them. It is suggested that you make a list of questions regarding the edits before you receive the call.
What’s not Included: While the editor will point out where content needs improvement and may offer suggestions on making it better, they will not write the improved version for you. After an author receives their developmental edits, it is expected that they will rewrite or complete the manuscript. Because of this, no input on spelling, typos, grammar, readability, etc., is provided. It is recommended that the author have the revised manuscript edited again at one of the higher levels.
If you’re tempted to publish your work without editing, but a voice in your head says you need to have it reviewed, this service may be an excellent one for you. When completed, you’ll likely be impressed by the difference professional book editing will make on your work. The internet today keeps everything visible forever, your first book included. Years from now, you don’t want to feel embarrassed about it.

A Clean-up for Unedited Manuscripts
When you’ve finished writing and are ready to take the next step – from publishing your book to sending a manuscript to an agent or publisher – copy editing is a wise investment. It is an error-correction editing service that doesn’t concern itself with your book’s content. It’s an excellent option for self-published books in need of an edit limited to a clean-up of mechanical and grammar errors.
What’s included: Applying the Chicago Manual of Style, an editor will check your manuscript for typographical errors such as misspelling, misuse of punctuation, or wrong word usage; proper grammar usage, including subject-verb agreement, sentence structure, etc.; and, readability, flow, and clarity of language.
What’s not Included: This is intended for manuscripts that have not been previously edited but for which the author is not interested in input on the book’s content. No input will be given on content such as character development, pacing, plot structure, or organization of information.
If you’re an accomplished writer or planning only a limited distribution of your book, a pre-publication clean-up in the form of copy editing can be right for you. We advise you to consider a more thorough review such as line editing if you plan a wider distribution for your book, especially if you are a first-time author or someone whose reputation depends on their book. You need to make a good impression.

The Final Review Before Publication
Make sure you have a final proofreading review of your book with the eagle-eyes of a professional editor before you release it for publication. You want text that’s error-free and perfect down to the last details, and the proofreading service will catch everything. If you haven’t learned this lesson the hard way, some readers will spot any mistake. Knowing some of them will buy your book, don’t skip proofreading.
What’s included: Applying the Chicago Manual of Style, an editor will check your polished manuscript for typographical errors such as misspelling, misuse of punctuation, or wrong word usage (i.e., should of instead of should have, read instead of real, etc.). It is intended as the last pass for a manuscript that has already been reviewed by others and cleaned, as well as the author could manage independently.
What’s not included: Any input on proper grammar usage, including subject-verb agreement, sentence structure, etc.; readability, flow, and clarity of language; and content such as character development, pacing, plot structure, or organization.
Seasoned publishing industry professionals advise authors to have their work edited and never cut corners. A final proofread is needed for every book, no matter how careful you’ve been through the writing and editing process. Typos and small mistakes can be tough to spot and a pair of fresh, professional eyes taking a look is always better than relying on yourself or spellcheck software.

Style Review, Typos, Grammar, and More
No matter how careful you’ve been while writing, you’re close to your work as its author. Let an editor suggest improvements to your content and make it free from noticeable errors. Line editing is one of our most popular and affordable book editing services. Your book needs to reflect well on you, and having the content cleaned up is essential. If a reader spots an error, their opinion changes instantly.
What’s included: Applying the Chicago Manual of Style, this level of editing looks at all aspects of the manuscript, including the writing itself and the content it presents. An editor will offer input on your manuscript for typographical errors such as misspelling, misuse of punctuation, or wrong word usage; proper grammar usage, including subject-verb agreement, sentence structure, etc.; readability, flow, and clarity of language; and content such as character development, pacing, plot structure, or organization. This service level also includes a call with your editor to discuss the edits after you have reviewed them. It is suggested that you make a list of questions regarding the edits before you receive the call.
What’s not included: While the editor will point out where content needs improvement and may offer suggestions on making it better, they will not write the improved version for you.
Hearing a second opinion about how to organize your book content also can be very useful. Easy tweaks to its structure and organization can transform your book’s readability and overall quality. If you seek reviews as part of your marketing program, you don’t want to read a critical comment that you could have avoided with an editor’s help. The competition and expectations for books are higher today.

*Our “per page” rates for editing, formatting and eBook creation are based on the average number of words per page in a fiction book, which is roughly 280. To determine your page count no matter your genre, find your total word count in the Review tab in Microsoft Word and divide that number by 280. Use the resulting number as your quantity for page count.

UP-CHARGES:
All manuscripts may be subject to up-charges at the discretion of the Senior Editor.
If a manuscript is found to have an unusually high number of errors, or is not being submitted at the proper level of editing (i.e., if a manuscript submitted for proofreading has not been previously edited or even had spell check run on it), then it will be assigned a higher cost.
You may purchase the Editing Check service to avoid incurring this up-charge, and the cost will be applied to your subsequent editing purchase.
